Gregorian Calendar is adopted in Boston.

September 2, 1752

As a result of passage by Parliament of the Calendar Act of 1751, Massachusetts and the other colonies join England in abandoning the Julian calendar (est. 46 B.C.) for the Gregorian calendar (est. 1582). In order to align with the calendars used by other countries, Boston residents go to sleep on the night of September 2nd and wake up the next morning on September 14th. Although some historical accounts suggest that rioting breaks out in England by workers complaining about having 11 days “stolen” from them, more recent research suggests that the transition goes smoothly.
